Our Sustainability Approach

The textile industry uses two types of raw materials, natural and synthetic. While natural yarns (mostly cotton) cover only 30% of this industry; the rest is produced from synthetic materials.

Global textile raw material production has nearly doubled in 20 years from 58 million tons in 2000, reaching 109 million tons in 2020. Global yarn production, on the other hand, predicts this increase to reach 146 million tons by increasing 34% in 2030, with the increasing population and textile starting to take more place in our daily lives.

For the continuation of the textile industry, more yarn production is required every day. However, being able to provide this from natural origin yarns cannot respond to the desired increase due to the need for agricultural areas, the high water consumption and the separation of the lands for food production. In order to increase the yarn production to the desired level and speed, different ways and techniques are sought. For this, we come across the most polyester option.

Polyester became the most preferred material, with a production volume of 57 million in 2020, making up 52% of the global yarn market. While polyester needs less water consumption; uses more energy and oil resources, which increases the emission of harmful greenhouse gases and affects the risk of global warming. On the other hand, it is possible to make polyester 100% recyclable and even wearable with new chemical recycling techniques. In addition to recyclability, polyester yarns can also be produced after use and reuse of recycled industrial materials.

Polyester yarns play a key role for sustainable textiles in terms of durability, elasticity, easy maintenance, less water consumption, recyclability, and not using agricultural areas. Circular textile economy A circular economy for textiles, fashion, and apparel is important because it aims to eliminate waste in the textiles industry. It is important to resource reuse and bringing clear benefits for natural resources, economic wellbeing, and the health and safety of the people who produce and dispose of our textiles. When textiles cannot be used or reused any longer, they should be collected and recycled locally.

We Believe in a Sustainable and Circular Textile Industry for Our Future

As KFS, we believe in a sustainable and circular textile industry for our future. We know that the key to achieving sustainable circular industry formation is the transformation of textile waste into new yarns that make up new clothing and other textile products.

For this reason, we source most of our production from used and recycled polymers and plant-based polymers that are recycled after use and used for another product. Beyond using recycled or plant-based polymers, we are developing, researching and investing more and more every day to produce functional, sustainable and environmentally friendly synthetic yarns for special applications.
